Apollo Hospital, New Delhi

Health Care

On the busy Mathura Road in the prime locality of South Delhi, surrounded by Jasola District Park and overlooking the lush greenery of Okhla Bird Sanctuary, is the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital campus. The Architects were approached by Apollo to visualize its expansion design programme, planned on a 5-acre plot of land within the existing complex. The project envisaged the addition of a 200-bed maternity and gynaecology block and a nursing institute with hostels meant to house 200 nurses and 50 resident doctors. The expansion of the facility is in keeping with the stepped massing and cubic volumes of the existing structure, borrowing from its architectural vocabulary. A well-planned auditorium within the institute building was part of phase one of the construction, while the addition of the maternity, gynecology as well as a new residential block was part of phase two. The location of the institute is ideal as the site for the new project is on the rear side of the existing hospital building, and allows students to interact with the main hospital facility and provides them with space to learn undisturbed in quiet surroundings.
