The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur, has been conceived as a self-sufficient campus for 8,000 students. It is viewed by the Indian government as an emerging seed of development that can bring Jodhpur a step closer to its ambition of becoming a Smart City in the future. In this spirit, it is intended to be a smart eco-campus, and a shining example of an institute that imparts knowledge, promotes technological research and facilitates a sustainable lifestyle. The Architects won the prestigious design competition for comprehensive design solutions in Phase I of the campus development, comprising architecture for the building zone, hostel zone and related utilities and services. For the hostels, the vision was to design a vibrant building for students to live, work and relax in, and to encourage interaction amongst them.
